Something New

Early this summer Glenn began building a lingerie dresser to go into my bathroom. He completed it and gave it to me for my birthday. He did a beautiful job! It's gorgeous!
In Process
Glenn and I are finally to a point where we can insulate the pool house. We'll begin stapling it up, then put up the wall board and build a ceiling which will close off the attic space and help us to cool and heat that space more efficiently. We've already installed two extra windows and bought a window air conditioner for the building. We're looking forward to being able to use this space more. Up until now, it has been way too hot to make good use of it.
We've also purchased lattice to install a skirt around the outside of the pool house before we have it professionally stained. I'm glad to soon have a way of keeping our four dogs from snooping around underneath there.
Another project we've been working on has been how we want to redo the cabinets in Glenn's house. They are the typical light oak finish but I really miss the darker color I once had. So we tried to recreate that look and I quickly found I didn't like any of them. So, after trying 3-4 shades of poly stain, we're looking at possibly painting them or putting on more coats of stain to see how that would look. This may be a long process! We did replace all the hardware on all the cabinets in the house, which did do a lot to help, so we'll just keep working at it until we get the look we want.
For a little while we were looking at property on a bluff that Glenn considered building on, but the more we began thinking of the future, we felt staying put and just remodeling was the better choice. Since we put in the pool, had the pool house built on the property, and just recently had the entire roof replaced, it just made better sense. It's in town and close to many conveniences. So, now we're looking at how we can improve things around here.
Heading to the Graveyard
Our 15 year old heating/airconditioning system has gone out for the last four years. After reviving it each year to last a little while longer, we finally reached the point to lose it. It's time for it to go!!! We're praying the new unit will be much quieter. That gets put in the day after tomorrow.
The small college size refrigerator we had in the pool house has finally died as well! It's kind of ironic that three things have gone copute in the last couple of weeks. They say things come in three's! I hope this is the end of things for now. So this fridge joins the heating/air unit on a one way trip to the appliance graveyard.
And more painfully, Glenn's refrigerator, our 2nd refrigerator/freezer, went out on us. We came home to a lot of thawed food one Sunday. Glenn worked for hours to repair it, to no avail, so it too found a ticket to the dump.
So, we're staying pretty busy and hope to accomplish a lot before the holidays come upon us. The weather over the summer certainly didn't help us out any. Updates will follow...........................
