I was blessed this week to spend a little time with my family. Amber and the grandkids came by to swim one day and we had a picnic lunch beside the pool.
Emma and Ethan kept us in stitches with their pool antics, as usual. Emma is determined to swim on her own, only she doesn't realize she doesn't know how to. She reminds me so much of Amber at her age. We had no option but to take Amber in for swim lessons as a baby because she had no fear!
One thing Emma has learned how to do is yell loudly and say "NO", much to her mother's frustration. This little one may be the result of a curse Mike gave out once... saying, "One day I hope you have a child just like you!"
She is such a delight, as is Ethan. Ethan is opposite of Emma and not quite as fond of swimming, although he likes the water. He just doesn't want it in his face, over his head, or out of his control. Amber was working with him on blowing bubbles, kicking, digging, floating, and going under the water holding his breath...much to Ethan's dislike. But he finally realized if he wants to go tubing on their boat, he is going to need to practice some water safety.
At the first of this week Glenn had one of his dogs into the vet, which is rare. Patti-cake yelped anytime anyone came near her to the point where Glenn became very concerned, so off to the vet we went. They couldn't figure out what her problem was being she wasn't running a temperature, she didn't have a bladder infection, or had any other signs of trouble. So they placed her on steroids for a week and gave her some muscle relaxers to take for a few days incase she somehow strained her back muscles. When we returned home, she began feeling better right aaway. I sure wish my vet visits with Chloe and Hailey turned out that easily.
Poor Chloe is on month #4 with diarreah. They have tried a couple of antibotics, some probiotics, ran all kinds of tests, and the only thing presenting itself right now is her Cushings Disease, Thyroid issues, and having Pancreatitis. Her Cushings and Thyroid levels are WAY out of whack, so that is what we're trying to focus on now. They have doubled her thyroid medication and have her on a pretty strong dose of her Cushings medication, which is a Cytoxin type drug. Her poor tummy just gurgles constantly when she's sleeping. I feel so bad for her.
Of course, because of her symptoms, she has dropped a lot of weight. I'm constantly feeding her hoping to break even with what she is losing daily. I make a sweet potato for her and Hailey every evening, mashed up with their salmon and rice dog food. She has really become VERY picky with what she'll eat. Hailey on the other hand, has doubled her weight and eats everything in site...and then some, if I don't watch her carefully.
Oh the joys of pet ownership! :)
